Currently living in Ottawa, Ontario, Heffernan descends from a Michi Saagiig Nishnaabe, Irish, and French Canadian ancestry. Her work is available for purchase through her small business, Miskwaa Designs, whether it be online or at local markets and pow wows.

“Miskwaa means “red” in Nishnaabemwin. Red is one of the four colours of the medicine wheel, which is used in many Nishnaabe teachings. Because of its beauty and the personal and spiritual significance red holds for me as an artist, I chose to incorporate it into the name of my business.”
